WEEK 93 - APRIL 21, 2019 - ASOKE

There is a famous saying in Thailand about the weather. There are 2 seasons in Thailand, hot and incredibly hot! Right now we're in the incredibly hot part! On Saturday a member told us it was the hottest day of the year and on the weather report, it said the weather outside feels like 112 degrees! So yeah, it's really hot here but still no place I'd rather be! This week was transfers and my companion, Elder McWhorter was transferred to Chiang Mai. My new companion is Elder Davis! We're from the same MTC group and he is so awesome! He has great energy and loves the work. I'm really excited to be serving with him. We got to go pick up the new missionaries from the airport and welcome them to Thailand! We also spent the whole next day with them with providing training and taking them to do some administrative stuff. It was so fun being with them and feeling their excitement for the work. It inspired me to work even harder! There were only 5 new Elders and 3 of them were headed to Myanmar. They're going to be great missionaries!

This week I really tried focusing on the Savior while studying. Our whole mission is taking President Nelson's challenge to read all of the verses about Jesus Christ in the standard works. It has been very insightful and a great testimony builder for me. I found some cool symbolism regarding the gifts brought by the wise men for Christ as a child. Myrrh is a precious incense that is obtained by oozing it out of the pores of plant leaves. This made me think of how Christ was burdened with our sins and bled from every pore. Frankincense is a sort of oil that is used for fumigation. Fumigation is applying gas or smoke to something to make it clean. Very similar to Jesus Christ and how He is able to cleanse us. I loved reading about the Savior this week and will continue to focus on Him and His resurrection and Atonement.

Brother Boom is still doing so well! He told us he wouldn't be attending church on Sunday because he had some urgent things to do. He went home and prayed to God, asking to help clear up his schedule so he could attend church. Sure enough, Sunday morning all his work cleared up and he was able to come to church! We taught him about tithing and fasting after church and he told us he's already been saving money and looking for a good cause to use it for. He was excited about the temple and is so excited to be baptized in a few weeks!

Other weekly highlights:
- We got a referral a little while ago named Sister Roong. She was able to come to church on Sunday and she enjoyed it! She's really starting to open her heart and want to learn more!
- got to lay tile in a fountain at the university right next to our church. We went and offered our help and usually, everyone refuses to let us help but these guys said yes, almost jokingly because of what we were wearing. The guys working were pretty dirty from concrete and we were wearing our white shirts and ties but we jumped right in and started helping them! They were really grateful and loved taking pictures of us. 2 of them even agreed to learn more and one has been to the church in Chaengwatthana where I served for 10 months!
- found a guy wearing a Zion, Utah shirt!
- safely drove the new missionaries to the airport on time despite traffic, several wrong turns, and no parking spots. Miracles!
