WEEK 73 - DECEMBER 3, 2018 - DON MUEANG

Hello everyone! Merry Christmas! Hope you all are enjoying Lighting the World!

We had a great week this week! We had a member give us half a bottle of ranch so this week I enjoyed a few ranch sandwiches (ranch and bread) and well as ranch toast (ranch and toasted bread). I love Thai food! Haha but for real Thai food is so good and I've gotten pretty good at eating spicy food. At church they made us a really spicy dish and we ate it without sweating or crying or anything and they were all pretty impressed!

Last night we embarked out to find an older member who has been sick. Her house is out pretty far in a poorer area of the city. While walking on a bridge above some tall grass we passed a house with a man standing on his patio. We said hello and he gave a cheery hello back. He can speak very good English and we began conversing. He is a very successful businessman but he recently had a stroke. His business partner took all his money and fled. He has 5 kids and 2 of them are very young. One of the young children was adopted by this very kimd family when her mother abandoned her. The adopted daughter and this man's wife both have serious diseases. The night before we met them this man and his wife stayed up late talking, wondering if they could make it to next month when there will be more jobs opening up. They are staying with their aunt right now while they look for work. All at once all my trials seemed very insignificant. Somehow this family was still very kind and offered to feed us. We talked about the special message we had for them and how Jesus Christ offers them peace. They were extremely humble and very willing to listen. There was a special feeling there and Elder Theobald and I found it hard to describe it afterwards. We will be visiting them again tonight!

Other highlights:
-taught a man the first three lessons in one sitting because he wanted to keep hearing more
-built a table for a recent convert
-ate 111 desserts at the Sizzler salad bar buffet
-had President Hammond come with us to teach some new people. I was so impressed with his extreme genuine care for the Thai people.
-our zone will be singing the Little Drummer Boy in our stake Christmas party so we practiced that a few times as well as listening to the Little Drummer Boy on repeat every night
-helped at a stake primary activity which was focused on missionary work

For the stake Christmas party Elder Theobald and I will be the wise men for the nativity. I took some time in personal study to learn about the wise men. From the bible dictionary I learned that these men were most likely prophets from an area east of Palestine. They were very in tune with the spirit and were watching diligently for signs of His birth. Once they made it to Jerusalem and announced their intentions to find the Savior the scriptures say that all of Jerusalem was troubled. Clearly the faith and boldness of the wise men was enough to shake all of Jerusalem. I hope to follow the example of the wise men this Christmas season and diligently seek after Christ.

Love you all! Thank you for all your prayers! Have a great week!
