WEEK 86 - MARCH 6, 2018 - DON MUEANG

This week is our transfers and I'll be leaving Don Mueang and heading to Asoke, which is right in the center of Bangkok! I am so grateful for the chance I've had to serve in Don Muenag with some awesome members and great companions. It will be hard to leave for sure but I'm excited for what lies ahead as well! The new temple site is in my new area so it will be cool to have that reminder of what we are working towards.

Our investigators are doing great in Don Mueang. Brother Awe is really excited to be baptized this coming Sunday. He has had this date circled on his calendar ever since we extended a baptismal date to him. He's a great man. He was a singer in his youth and now he works selling groceries and painting pictures using coffee. We had a great lesson about the Restoration with him to review before he interviews. He's really excited!

This week in my studies I was thinking about how to help investigators get an answer that the things we are teaching are true. I read in Alma 5:45-46 where Alma asks the people "Do ye not suppose that know of these things myself? Behold, testify unto you that do know that these things whereof have spoken are true. And how do ye suppose that know of their surety? Behold, say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, have fasted and prayed many days that might know these things of myself. And now do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me." If you remember Alma was the one who saw an angel and got rebuked and laid in a coma for 2 days where he had a change of heart. It was so interesting to me that Alma teaches that the thing that actually led him to know of the truthfulness of the gospel came from his personal fasting and prayer. So often the people we teach seek after signs and physical proof that the gospel is true. However, the way to true conversion comes from what Alma taught. It comes through fasting, prayer, and the gentle influence of the Holy Ghost.

This week we got to go find some members with the Area 70 who lives in our ward. I was so impressed with his pure happiness that has come from a life of living the gospel. He is the only one in his family to be baptized but he now has a wife and 2 kids. One of their children is in the bishopric of our ward and the other is the ward pianist and teaches at the Philippines MTC. Their family is so happy. I know Mosiah 2:41 is the reason for their happiness. True happiness comes from keeping the commandments of Christ.

Other highlights:
- helped chop branches off a tree in front of a member's house. My companion climbed on top of the roof and cleared away a large chunk of the tree branches.
- had four 14-year-old kids randomly walk into the church to play soccer. We beat them in soccer then taught them the Restoration. They were interested and promised to come back and learn again.
- set up a lemonade stand in the park and passed out free lemonade as well as copies of the Book of Mormon and Restoration pamphlets.
- Thai name of the week: Dome

Love you all so much! Onward, ever onward!
