WEEK 78 - JANUARY 6, 2018 - DON MUEANG

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

New Years here is a huge holiday so we had to go home a little early. Pretty low-key new years for us. It was a little hard because almost everybody in Bangkok goes out of town for New Years so most of our people we're teaching were gone. People are starting to come back into town now, so that's good.

This week was sort of a challenging week. It felt like we were getting rejected more frequently than usual and several of the people we are teaching either told us they don't want to meet anymore or they stopped answering the phone when we call them. It's been difficult but I've also had several moments of peace that have helped confirm to me that I'm doing the right things. People have their agency and they get to choose what they want in their lives. We can only point the way.

Something I really enjoyed from my studies today came from Lehi's vision of the Tree of Life. It talked about Lehi and his family and how they all made it to the tree and then he saw numberless people pushing towards the tree. He then noticed people start losing their way. The people were moving towards the great and spacious building which Lehi then noticed. I thought it was so interesting that Lehi noticed the building after getting to the tree and he only noticed because the other people were moving towards the building. Lehi was so focused on his goal, the tree and his family, that he never even noticed the temptations or distractions of the great and spacious building. If each of us could be more focused on our goals I believe the negative influences of the world would have less of an impact on us. The way we do that is simply by following what the Sacrament prayers say. We do it by remembering Christ always.

Thai name of the week: Chinese

Other highlights:
- an elderly lady smacked my arm for no reason whatsoever
- went and saw a traditional Thai dance performance
- watched a man feed his chicken pills meant for humans

Just another great week in the life of a missionary! Love you all so much!
