WEEK 77- DECEMBER 31, 2018 - DON MUEANG

Happy New Year everybody!

Sorry I didn't write last week. We were busy with a mission Christmas party! Christmas here was super fun but super different. Almost nobody knew the real meaning behind Christmas. Everyone here thinks Christmas is America's new year featuring Santa Claus. It was pretty neat to be able to explain the real meaning. There is a special spirit whenever we talk about the Savior with people who are open-hearted. We also got to go caroling with some members in our ward. It was a blast! I loved seeing the ward come together to visit members who were sick or lonely. These members in Thailand are some of the greatest people I've ever met. I'm so glad I'm able to be here with them.

Last week Brother Benz was baptized! It was such a cool experience! He told us he wanted to be baptized and confirmed before Christmas so we set everything up for a baptism on Saturday the 22nd. He was so excited. He was beaming the whole day! He has a handicap with his legs which makes walking hard for him but his faith is so incredible. He drives himself to church every week and goes to all the classes. He loves church and more than that he loves Jesus Christ. He's so happy to tell people who he believes in.

I got to switch off with Elder Jorgensen last week which was such a blast! We have been close ever since the MTC. We met a man at his house who we waved and said hello to. He waved back and said "Hey! Salt Lake City! Brigham Young!" And then imitated throwing a football. Haha! BYU football has made it all the way across the world to Thailand! The man was very nice but very uninterested in learning. It was still cool to talk to him. We also talked to a taxi driver who was super interested and we gave him a baptismal date right on the spot. It was so cool! I'm grateful for the things I learned from Elder Jorgensen that day.

Yesterday we had an investigator, Brother Aed, who finally got off of work to go to church. We showed up at his house to take him to church and he told us he was sick and couldn't go. We were so disappointed as we got in the taxi to go back to church. However, the taxi driver recognized me and remembered I had invited him to church a few weeks ago. He asked if we were going to the church. We said "yes" and he said, "I'm going in with you!" Such a cool miracle. He told us he loves ancient books and learning about history. Perfect! He's super open to the gospel.

Other highlights:
- found a rameumptom
- got a new companion! He's serving from our ward and heading to South Africa in a few days but he'll be with us until then! It's cool because he's helped us teach so many times as a member but now he's our companion!
- the students in our English class bought me a birthday cake and sang "Happy Birthday" after our English class! They're so nice!
- trimmed some hedges
- found an EFY shirt at a random t-shirt shop

Thank you all for your Christmas letters and birthday wishes! Love you all so much! Have a great week!
