Hope you all are doing well. This week was awesome! We are working hard and trying to further God's work here in Thailand. Lots of cool miracles going on these days!
Thailand is notorious for the traffic here. Elder McWhorter and I were heading to the airport to fly out to zone conference in the northeastern part of Thailand and sure enough,, we got stuck in traffic. We were very worried about missing our flight because we knew that would be the end of our flying days and we'd have to bus everywhere. Things were looking bleak so we decided to pray. Sure enough, the traffic eased up. We finally got to the airport and there was no parking! We found a parking spot and took off on a full out sprint. We made it to the check-in counter 1 minute before it closed! God really does care about the little things in our life.
We've been teaching a guy named Ter. He is a 22-year-old college student who we met a few weeks ago. At first, we felt like he was not very interested but he ended up coming to the appointment we set up with him! Even as we were teaching we felt like he was not very into it but he started asking some great questions and gave some great answers to the questions we were asking. He came to church the next day and really enjoyed it! Lots of members were sharing their experiences with him and really motivated him to seek his own answer. He came to church this week and really liked it again. He has a baptismal date for the 21st of next month. He's expressed some concern about being baptized because he needs to be a monk for his current religion in order to help his ancestors. We were able to show him a picture of the temple and testify of how he can help his family through the temple and he liked that idea!
Yesterday we met a man on the subway named Boom. He told us he's been going to a Christian church for the last month and he was just ecstatic to meet us! He's been wanting to learn more ever since he was little but hasn't ever been able to until now! He prayed and asked God what lottery ticket to buy and he said that God directed him to buy a ticket and that ticket ended up being the correct ticket. He was so amazed that he donated all the money to charity. He's been praying lately asking God for help with his work and he's been seeing a great increase in customers at his work. He has been so prepared and he is so excited to meet with us again! Elder McWhorter and I just looked at each other afterwards like, "Did that really just happen?" Heavenly Father truly has been preparing people for us!
I've had a few challenges lately that have helped me come closer to the Savior. A few verses I read in the Book of Mormon that really strengthened my testimony. I read in 1 Nephi 17:13-14. It says 13 And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led.
14 Yea, and the Lord said also that: After ye have arrived in the promised land, ye shall know that I, the Lord, am God; and that I, the Lord, did deliver you from destruction; yea, that I did bring you out of the land of Jerusalem.
These verses helped me remember that sometimes we have trials to help us recognize how much we need to rely on Christ and so we can testify of His help in the future. I know that Jesus Christ has strengthened me through my trials on my mission and I can testify that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world!
I love this work and I love being a missionary. Such a special opportunity to be in Thailand serving the Lord. Love you all so much!
