WEEK 79 - JANUARY 13, 2019 - DON MUEANG

All the members here are getting really excited for the temple groundbreaking on the 26th! My companion will get to go watch bu,t unfortunately, I will not be in attendance. Only the native Thai missionaries will be able to go, due to space, but we will get to watch it at our church building though! We're super excited!

The sisters in our ward are teaching an investigator who is sick and in the hospital. They asked us to give her a blessing which we gladly did. We went and visited with her for a second then gave the blessing. When Elder Aek was saying the blessing I felt the sister take a big deep breath and then let it out. After the blessing she was ecstatic. She told us she hadn't been able to breathe properly in several days until we gave her the blessing. She said as we were giving the blessing she literally felt her lungs and throat clear up and was able to breathe normally. How cool right?! She has a greater desire to be baptized now as well. The priesthood of Jesus Christ is real. It really is His power for the salvation of God's children.

A few months ago we were teaching an awesome couple who wanted to be baptized but they went up north to Chiang Mai for what we thought would be about 1 or 2 weeks, but it turned out to be 2 months. We felt like we should stop by their apartment yesterday after church. We were going to visit another family afterward with a little girl so we brought a present from the ward Christmas party a few weeks ago that someone donated. We knocked on the couple's door and waited and waited. We figured they were still gone and walked to leave but then they opened the door! They were so excited to see us! The reason they were gone in Chiang Mai so long was the wife is pregnant and there are good doctors up there. We also had brought this little present which we were able to give for their new baby who is due in about 3 months. They were grateful and want to come back to church. I know Heavenly Father was in the middle of guiding us back to meet them.

We taught several new, cool people this week. After one lesson with a new guy we were teaching he looked at us and said "this all sounds great but I have just one question: what will happen to us when we die?" What a great question! It's every missionary's dream to hear that question because we have an answer! I'm so grateful for the knowledge of a resurrection and of eternal life.

This past week Elder Aek's grandma passed away. She was very old and frail and it has been expected for a while so he wasn't too upset. We were able to go to part of the funeral yesterday because his house is pretty close to where we are. It was a Buddhist funeral with lots of prayers and other things which of course we didn't participate in. It gave me a lot of time to think. I thought about how grateful I am to know I'll be with my family forever. Several members of Elder Aek's family were pretty sad but he seemed peaceful, because he knew he would see his grandma again.

I got to switch off with Elder Nielsen this week. He was my MTC companion! It was cool to see how far we've both come from the MTC. I learned a lot from him that day, especially how I can be even more obedient. He is strictly obedient and he and his companion see great miracles because of it. I love these missionaries I serve with!

Thai name of the week: Holy
