It's starting to change from hot to incredibly hot here but we're still seeing miracles and having a great time inviting others to come unto Christ.
We ride in a lot of taxis while traveling throughout our area. I love riding in taxis! The taxi drivers are so funny and the taxis are nice and cool so it gives us a nice break. While riding in one taxi this week the taxi driver said he enjoyed watching NBA basketball. I asked him who his favorite team was and surprisingly he said the Utah Jazz! It was so awesome to find that little connection to home. The Jazz are, by far, not the most popular team in the league so it was crazy to find someone here in Thailand who liked watching them! Probably because of my boy Joe Ingles.
Next taxi driver story. We were riding to an appointment and all if the sudden he pulled over to the side of the road and "took care of business' right there!
I learned the Thai word for captain which is แม่ทัพ which literally translates to "mother of the army." It made me think about Helaman and the stripling warriors which he several times referred to as "his sons." I am so grateful for the mother of the Borg family army and for her love for each one of her "soldiers." Love you so much Mom!
A common excuse we hear from Thai people when they don't want to learn about Jesus is "religion is just up to the person. Everyone can believe in their own religion and whatever they believe in is what is true for them." Then in my studies I read Mosiah 3:17 which says "And moreover, I say unto you, that there shall be no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent." We try so hard to help them understand that our message is for everyone and not just for members of our church. They don't always listen but I am grateful for the knowledge of a Savior and the knowledge that through Him is the only way to obtain salvation.
This week we got a referral from a member of the bishopric. The referral's name is เจต (Jate) and he came to the International ward on Sunday because he really wants to learn English. Afterwards we were able to teach him. We taught him how to pray. He told us he really wants to learn English and we bore testimony of how God is our loving Heavenly Father and how He wants to help us in all our trials and difficulties. I was also grateful to be able to bear testimony of how God has helped me learn Thai. If God helped me learn Thai then He will help brother เจต learn English! He was so surprised that Heavenly Father would help him learn English. He gave an awesome prayer to end the lesson and he seems excited to keep learning. He's also been keeping us updated on the soccer matches that have been going on today so he's really awesome.
Funny Thai name: Dang
