WEEK 23 - DECEMBER 12, 2017 - SURIN

Hello hello!

Well another crazy, awesome week! We had Stake Conference and Zone Conference this weekend and that was a blast. We got to stay in a hotel for 2 whole nights! We were also with all the other missionaries from our zone so that was awesome! We played football one morning and it was so much fun to be able to play again! Even just street two-hand touch was a blast! Elder Wilcox is a beast but he totally pushed off to catch the game-winning touchdown. Oh well. ;) I also gave a talk at Zone Conference. It was about who Jesus Christ is to me and I focused on the title "Savior". I told the story about when I fell in the pool as a young kid and couldn't swim. I remember the feelings of hopelessness and fear that came with not being able to save myself on my own. The more I teach the Plan of Salvation the more I realize just how hopeless we really are as human beings. Without a Savior we would be completely done after this life. The grave would win and everything would end. Luckily we do have a Savior! Like my dad who jumped into the pool and saved me the Savior has done the same thing for all of us! He has saved us! That is one reason the title "Savior" is so important to me.

We've found some awesome new investigators this week. While out contacting we stopped and talked to a lady at her house. She almost instantly invited us in and we taught her and her 2 grand kids. They're all super receptive but they feel worried because the rest of their family is die-hard Buddhist. We invited them to pray and ask God if these things are true. I'll let you know how it goes with them!

We also taught two people after English class. They both had tons of good questions, some about the Crusades and about why God is a male so we were getting in some good doctrine! Hahaha but they both seemed really interested and we're excited for them!

Funny story from this week: I was casually riding my bike home at the end of the day. I start slowing down to turn onto the bridge the goes into our neighborhood and then I heard something break. My front had had it and wrapped itself around my front wheel completely stopping it. Before I knew it I was front-flipping through the air over my bike. Thankfully I landed on a patch of grass. There was a large group of people sitting by their house and they witnessed the whole thing so they were laughing at me. They also were very nice and come over and helped me but my front wheel was done for. (see pictures) I walked my bike home (and somehow got home on time- miracles) and the next day we got it fixed. We only took the front tire with us to get it fixed and then we went and got ice cream as our district meeting tradition so I was carrying my front bike tire around the mall the whole time. I decided to enjoy my special time with just me and my tire. (see pictures)

All the missionaries got phones and we started using them this week! It's super convenient and a really cool tool! The lord is hastening His work! I feel so lucky to be a part of it!

This week there was a District Leader conference in Bangkok so Elder Wilcox and some other District Leaders went down there and two Elders came to Surin for the day. Me, Elder McDonald (who is in my MTC group) and Elder Abbott (a greenie) took on Surin and it was awesome! I got to lead all of the lessons and it really strengthened my testimony of the Gift of Tongues. All leading up to that day I was really nervous. That morning I said a special prayer to ask God to help me understand the lessons and be able to say the things I needed to. I understood more on that day than I ever had before! It was such a blessing!

Funny Thai name of the week: Baby

One scripture I enjoyed from this week is from Mark 8:34. I always talk about turning my will over to God and I learned more about that this week. "And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." So the first step is denying yourself and turning your will over to God but the second part stuck out to me this time. "Take up his cross" to me means being willing to work. We can turn our will over to God but if we aren't willing to work for anything then nothing will happen.

I love you all! Thanks for all you do for me! Have a great Christmas season and enjoy the special feelings from the season!
