WEEK 26 - JANUARY 1, 2018 - SURIN

Hey! Happy New Year, everyone!!

Another great week being a missionary! I love everything about missionary work! Even the long days and rough times are so worth it for the blessings and miracles we see.

This week Sister Daengmo got confirmed a member of the Church. She was so happy and is going to be a great light to others! She just got offered a job in Bangkok though, so she's moving down there which is pretty sad for our little branch who has welcomed her with open arms. She's very excited and a small miracle is she is moving to an area called Saphan Sung which is the area that Elder Chandler is serving in right now! I gave him a call and he is excited to help her continue to progress!

This week we traveled down to Bangkok so Elder Wilcox could renew his visa. All of that went fine but all the buses were full because of new years so we had to take a train and let me tell ya, it was rough. We were crammed in this tiny corner of this train that should hold about 50 people in one car but we've got about 100 per car. I had an older man sitting on my back for half the ride. We boarded the train at approximately 3:45 PM and we got to Surin at about 2 AM. It was quite a long day to say the least but I got to read lots of scriptures so that was great!

New Years in Thailand is one of their biggest holidays. Everyone parties and lights fireworks. Unfortunately not too many aerial ones so we didn't get to see any. We did hear them blasting off all night long though!

A verse I enjoyed from my scripture study this week is from Mormon 9:14. I love the part that says "he that is happy shall be happy still" It's talking about our life in the eternities. If we are happy on earth now then we will be happy in the presence of God. This was just another subtle reminder to me to try to be happy as much as I can. There's no point in being sad when we can be happy! I love this Gospel because it is called the "Plan of Happiness" and it will give us happiness forever!

This week we were teaching Sister Gift who is about 10 years old. Her mom is devout Buddhist but really wants Gift to be baptized. Then when we asked Gift to be baptized her mom said it was too soon and she needed to learn more. We assured her that she was ready. Her mom said she would give us an answer the next day. The next day at church Sister Gift said her mom allowed her to be baptized! She has a date for the 21st! We're very excited for her! We know that through her example her mom will come to see the truth too and desire to have an eternal family.

I love you all so much! Have a very happy new year! I pray for you all everyday. Thank you for all the birthday wishes and love!
