WEEK 27 - JANUARY 9, 2018 - SURIN

Hey!

We found out transfers yesterday and I am being transferred from Surin to Pakkret. Pakkret is in northern Bangkok. I will be serving with Elder Ignacio, who was in my district my first two transfers. He is awesome and I am way excited to serve with him! It will be really hard to leave Surin though. There are truly amazing people here. I'm so grateful that I got to serve in Surin!

I'm also a little disappointed to be transferring because we have 4 baptisms scheduled for the next 4 weeks! Our investigators have been progressing so well! We have an investigator named Sister Chompuu who goes over every point of every lesson we have taught her starting with the Gospel of Christ down through tithing and fasting. For example, she goes over all the points of the Word of Wisdom, Law of Chastity, 10 commandments, and all the other lessons! It's way cool! She's got it all down. She wants to be ready for her baptism so she studies way hard! She's also already almost finished the Book of Mormon! Her baptism is scheduled for this upcoming Sunday because she was so excited to get baptized that she moved her date up a week.

We had a way crazy experience this last Sunday. While waiting for church to start we saw a white man walk into the church with his Thai wife. He explained that God had led him to this church today. He wasn't a member and was just visiting Surin for the day but was a devout Christian and found our church online! It was fast and testimony meeting and I explained what was going on and he wanted to share his testimony. He got up and, with Elder Wilcox translating, laid out this crazy story of him being guided through a minefield by a spirit while he was a solider. He said after that he found God. Then he prayed for all the members there. After the meeting we were talking to him and he asked where we were from and we told him Utah. He said "Utah huh? They've got the Mormons down there! Those Mormons are kind of crazy aren't they? They believe in a different Bible..." and he went on for a while about Mormons. I was kind of stunned for a second but let him finish. At the end I politely explained that he was currently in a Mormon church and was talking to a Mormon. He was pretty surprised and quickly switched his thoughts saying that anyone who believed in Christ was a friend to him. It was so funny! He left pretty quick after that but it was so cool to hear his testimony and see how God works in different ways. I'm sure sometime in the future he'll be prepared to receive the restored Gospel!

One verse I loved from my study this week is from Ether 12:4 which says: "Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God." There's so many awesome things from this verse! I love how it talks about how hope comes from faith and through faith we have an anchor. That anchor leads leads us to do good works. I love that! When we have faith we want to serve others because that's what Christ did. I'm so grateful to be serving the people of Thailand and show my faith in Christ.

Fun Thai name of the week: หมู which translates to Pig.

I'm so grateful for this gospel and the chance I have to share it! Thanks to everyone that sent birthday and holiday wishes! I miss you all!
