WEEK 25 - DECEMBER 24, 2017 - SURIN

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have a very happy Christmas!

We had a very special and WHITE Christmas Eve! Sister Daengmoh was baptized yesterday! She was so excited and bore a very powerful testimony afterwards.  When she had her baptismal interview with the Zone Leaders they talked about how converted she is and how she was so ready to be baptized. This definitely shows the power of the Spirit in teaching because Elder Wilcox and I could not have done that on our own. Luckily she was fine with being baptized in green water because that's what we got in our font. We went over to clean it before the branch party Saturday night but the only water we were getting was green. That wasn't going to stop her though! She jumped right in! It was amazing!

Saturday night we had the Branch Christmas party and it was seriously one of the most fun parties I have ever been to. Our Branch President has been at the Church all week decorating and several members have been helping him including Sister Daengmoh and several other investigators! They all feel so welcomed in the Branch and it's been so great. They would seriously be there all day and they all came early to help clean the church before the party. At the party we had 20 non-members come! The members of our branch did a great job inviting their friends and now we have several new potential investigators. At the party we had a special Christmas devotional and the Branch President assigned me to be one of the narrators. I'm so grateful for his belief in me and for the good sport that everyone else was because I still don't read Thai very fast. Despite that, the spirit was very strong and everyone loved singing the songs together. After that me and Elder Wilcox were in charge of games to play and we went with musical chairs which turned out to be a huge hit. After that we had a Christmas costume contest. Elder Wilcox represented the two of us and did awesome winning two whole votes and finishing in last place! Hahah. Everyone there talked about how it felt like a big family. Everyone felt so united. It was amazing!

This week I was reading in Jesus the Christ and I read the miracle of the man who was blind from birth and had his sight restored by Christ. When interrogated by the High Priests the man knew he wasn't as knowledgeable as them so instead of trying to debate he simply stated what he knew was true. That he was once blind and can now see. I thought that was an awesome example for all of us. Sometimes we are faced with questions that we don't understand. Instead of worrying about what we don't know we should always focus on what we don't know. One thing that is for sure true is that God loves each of us and wants us to be happy! "Honestly acknowledge your questions and your concerns, but first and forever fan the flame of your faith, because all things are possible to them that believe." -Elder Holland

We have a new investigator named Sister Chompuu. She seemed really lukewarm about learning with us. She said she was just interested in religions and wanted to learn. We taught her the first lesson and have her a Book of Mormon. After English class we got to teach her again. We asked how her Book of Mormon reading had been. She said, "I read about half of it."
"Oh, like half the chapter?"
"No, like half the book"
She had read to halfway through Alma in a week! She was completely changed! She accepted a baptismal date, helped at the Christmas party, came to church and stayed to watch the baptism. She seemed really excited to be baptized too! The Book of Mormon with the Spirit is the best tool in conversion!

Crazy story from this week. We had an investigator take us out to eat pizza. She told us to not worry about the cost because she had just won the lottery! Yep that's true. Later in the week we visited a less active member and we asked how he's been lately. He said he's been doing pretty good since he just won the lottery. No joke two people we visited won the lottery this week! Crazy but true!

Yesterday while riding home we were stopped by a Cambodian man. He told us he builds all of our churches in southeast Asia and wasn't a member. He wants to learn about our church! It was such a cool miracle!

Love you all so much! I hope you all have a merry Christmas and remember the purpose of Christmas. I'm so grateful for Christ and for His birth. Merry Christmas!
